JSSI Delivers Service to Olympic Bound Business Jets

Jet Support Services, Inc. (JSSI), the leading provider of hourly cost maintenance programs for the business aviation industry, will have members of their Technical Services team focused on supporting London business jet travelers during the Olympic Games, July 27 through August 12, 2012.

JSSI has more than 45 technical experts around the world who act as trustworthy maintenance advisers whenever JSSI clients are faced with an AOG (Aircraft on Ground) situation or need assistance arranging for maintenance and overhaul events. Chromalloy Begins Offering CF6-50 Aircraft Engine Teardown to Parts Suppliers

Chromalloy has announced that its San Diego, Calif., engine maintenance, repair and overhaul center now performs CF6-50 power system teardown services for MRO parts suppliers.

“We have established a launch customer for our teardown service and will provide it to parts suppliers worldwide, as well as our existing customers,” said Martin George, general manager.  “Chromalloy’s San Diego operation is one of the only service providers that can provide tear-down and manage the piece-part inspection and repair – all under one roof.”

Teardown on two 747 commercial airliner engines for a global parts supplier is now under way at the San Diego center. The CF6-50 is the first engine for teardown service offered by Chromalloy; others will be added in 2012 and 2013.

The company’s 110,000 square foot maintenance, repair and overhaul center – the only MRO in Chromalloy’s global network of component repair stations – provides a range of other services including module refurbishment, equipment exchange, seals, Non Destructive Testing, engine monitoring and test cell analysis.

“San Diego is the only location within the company’s global network to offer tear-down and full MRO services,” George said.
In 2011 the San Diego repair center was modernized and additional equipment and tooling added.

Limited Access to Required Parts May Affect Flight Safety says Locatory.com

Locatory.com says in spite of vigorous and constant progress in aircraft manufacturing technologies, flights are still not 100 percent safe. Human factors remain the most common reason for aviation accidents and incidents; thus it is up to airlines, MROs and other market players to develop strategies aimed at lowering the associated risks. The improvements are necessary not only in the field of flight and technical personnel training , but also in the management of spare parts’ supply chain, since lengthy deliveries and limited access to spare parts may trigger additional human factor related issues.

“It is no secret that the majority of aviation incidents and accidents are attributable to the human factor. In Russia the rates are as high as 80 percent, whilst in Australia human errors cause approx. 70 percent of accidents. However, it should be pointed out that human errors are not related to flight crew members only,” commented the CEO of Locatory.com, Zilvinas Sadauskas.

According to the State University of New York at Buffalo in the early 1990s the maintenance-related failures contributed to around 18 percent of all aviation accidents and incidents in the U. S. As concerns the latest global figures, according to Fundación Andaluza Fondo de Formación y Empleo, nowadays the maintenance factor contributes to “only” eight percent of the accidents and incidents worldwide. Most maintenance-related human errors are triggered by such issues as the shortage of technical specialists, psychological pressure due to lengthy deliveries and short deadlines, as well as the lack of equipment or aircraft parts, etc.

“All of the aforementioned factors are particularly familiar to the emerging aviation markets. Though the situation has significantly improved in the last ten years or so, some safety issues, related to the ineffective supply chain, still affect the industry. Due to limited resources and access to the global spare parts market, local airlines and MROs based in such emerging markets as South and Central Americas are facing additional risks. In AOG situations the companies and their employees incur extra pressure due to fortune-costing downtimes, delays and the inability to speed up lengthy deliveries. Moreover, sometimes the failure to find the required component may lead to the acquisition of an improper or incorrect spare part. This may be a very serious and alarming factor, since it corresponds to seven to nine percent of all maintenance related human errors in the global aviation. Considering all what has been mentioned, the emerging aviation markets are strongly urged to make a further step in their development and explore, for instance, e-business possibilities, including e-procurement and e-marketing, in order to enter the global spare parts marketplace, optimize their Human Resources and lower the delivery terms,” explained Zilvinas Sadauskas.

Jet Aviation Earns ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 Certs in Three U.S. Locations

Three Jet Aviation U.S. operations met the requirements to establish, document, implement and continually improve their environmental, health and safety management systems in accordance with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards. The locations that received the internationally recognized certifications are St. Louis, Teterboro, N.J., and Boston/Bedford, Mass.

ISO 14001 is a continuous improvement standard designed to help an organization reduce its impact on the environment and OHSAS 18001 is a safety initiative with a goal of reducing workplace injuries. Implementing the two systems required Jet Aviation to meet detailed criteria and receive approval through an independent auditor.

Jet Aviation St. Louis Expands Mobile Maintenance Capability

Jet Aviation St. Louis has enhanced its mobile maintenance capability with the recent addition of three customized service vehicles. The vehicles are staffed by technicians from St. Louis and will be dispatched as needed to support customers.

With the addition of the latest vehicles, Jet Aviation now has five trucks available in the U.S. to deploy to assist customers; three in St. Louis and one each in Teterboro and Boston/Bedford. The trucks provide on-site maintenance services for AOG situations including non-destructive testing and engine and avionics troubleshooting.

“We have been providing this mobile maintenance service to customers for years,” notes Chuck Krugh, senior vice president, Jet Aviation St. Louis. “Because operators have found this support so beneficial we wanted to further enhance the service by adding customized trucks that are fully equipped to perform in-field diagnostics, testing and maintenance upon customer request. Harv's Air Flight Training Gets an App

Harv’s Air Flight Training has just released their very first iOS App. “Call us geeks. Or better yet, aviation geeks,” says Adam Penner, operations manager for Harv’s Air Flight Training. “We made an App. Yes an Apple Iphone/Ipad/Ipod App.” This is basically a library of helpful documents for student pilots, along with a few videos and links to their bookings system and online ground school system, the company says. “I believe we are the first flying school in Canada to have an iOS App,” says Penner. “And it’s ready right now! British Airways Engineering to Support Boeing GoldCare

British Airways Engineering announced at Farnborough Air Show that it has been selected to provide its global line maintenance and engineering services to Boeing’s GoldCare programme. The appointment comes following a detailed selection process.

British Airways Engineering has joined a choice group of suppliers that Boeing can select to support their GoldCare fleet maintenance requirements for the 787 Dreamliner and Next-Generation 737. GoldCare customers will now be able to benefit from British Airways Engineering’s global network of line maintenance facilities, capable of providing high-quality line, phase and heavy maintenance, as well as Aircraft Transition Services wherever required.

In today’s highly competitive aviation market, carriers need to maximize aircraft availability in order to reduce costs and maintain service levels. Boeing GoldCare helps its customers do that through a range of services including lifecycle management, maintenance planning and materials management. British Airways has been selected to provide services for the GoldCare Engineering offering, and will be responsible for helping to maximize fleet value and efficiency.

P&W and JetBlue Finalize Agreement for PurePower PW1100G-JM Engines for Airbus A320neo Family Aircraft

Pratt & Whitney and JetBlue Airways signed a definitive agreement for PurePower PW1100G-JM engines to power its order of 40 firm A320neo family aircraft finalizing the MOU announced in late 2011.  The agreement includes 86 PurePower engines with a long-term PureSolutionSM maintenance service agreement. Deliveries are scheduled to start in 2018.

“The PurePower engine is optimally designed for our future fleet of A320neo aircraft,” said Dave Ramage, vice president technical operations for JetBlue Airways.   “The benefits of improved fuel efficiency, lower operating cost and a minimal noise footprint make the PurePower engine a prudent investment in our future.”
