Gulfstream Opens Sales and Design Center in Dallas

Gulfstream Aerospace has opened a sales and design center at the company’s facility in Dallas. The 9,300-square-foot (864-square-meter) center enhances the customer experience during the sales and design stages of a Gulfstream business jet by allowing them to see and evaluate potential paint schemes, cabin layouts and interior cabin selections.

gulfstreamdallas_designcenterx250Gulfstream Dallas encompasses more than 420,000 square feet (39,019 square meters) and comprises a completions center for Gulfstream mid-cabin aircraft — the new super mid-size G280 and the wide-cabin, high-speed G150 — and a service center for all Gulfstream aircraft.

“With the entry-into-service of the G280, we wanted to offer mid-cabin customers cabin-design capability at the same location where their aircraft is being completed,” said Tray Crow, director, Interior Design. “What they will find is a clean and neutral space that is comfortable and conducive to the process of choosing an aircraft and personalizing its interior to suit their needs.”

The centerpiece of the Dallas sales and design center is a material showroom filled with leathers, fabric swatches, carpet samples and veneers as well as examples of cabin amenities. Using a state-of-the-art, mobile visualization application called DesignBook, which Gulfstream first demonstrated to customers at the 2012 NBAA Convention, customers and company personnel can also experiment with various cabin configurations, colors and fabrics.

DesignBook is also available at Gulfstream’s Savannah Sales and Design Center, a similarly equipped 17,900-square-foot (1,663-square-meter) facility that opened in June 2007.

“This technology enables our Interior Design teams to create a highly realistic rendering of a cabin in real time,” Crow said. “With the click of a mouse or touch of a screen, customers can see how different fabrics and colors look together in a particular cabin configuration. We can adjust and refine until the customer gets the desired interior.”

The Gulfstream Dallas Sales and Design Center is staffed by designers, Completion Sales executives and support staff.

IKHANA Issued FAA STC for Twin Otter Re-Lifed Flight Controls

IKHANA Aircraft Services has received FAA Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) and Parts Manufacturing Approval (PMA) for their RWMI DHC-6 Re-Life Flight Controls. This is the latest addition to an expanding catalog of value-adding Twin Otter modifications. All eleven (11) DHC-6 Flight Controls are re-manufactured, providing NEW 66,000 hours/132,000 cycles of fatigue life with applicability to all DHC-6-100/-200/-300 Series Twin Otter airplanes. “Many operators don’t realize that the flight controls are life limited assemblies that require tracking and expire upon reaching 66,000 hours or 132,000 cycles of use,” says John Zublin, president/CEO of IKHANA. “The RWMI DHC-6 Re-Life Flight Control STC is an ideal fit with our other proprietary STCs for the RWMI DHC-6 Re-Life Wing Box and DHC-6 Re-Life Fuselage.”

IKHANAx250The original -100, -200, and -300 Series Twin Otters, produced from 1965 to 1988, have a structural fatigue life limit of 66,000 hours/132,000 cycles for the fuselage and flight controls. IKHANA’s RWMI Re-Life Flight Controls are the FAA PMA equivalent of FACTORY-NEW equipment and complements the RWMI DHC-6 Re-Life Fuselage STC (awarded in November of 2011) and the RWMI DHC-6 Re-Life Wing Box STC (awarded in 1996). With the RWMI DHC-6 Re-Life Flight Controls, IKHANA has the ability to provide a re-life for all of the Twin Otter’s major structural assemblies.

IKHANA (and its predecessor, R.W. Martin, Inc.) has manufactured more than 100 re-lifed Wing Boxes and expects strong demand for the latest STC products. Re-lifed aircraft are customized by IKHANA for operations supporting executive transport, regional/commuter airlines, and special missions. Available options include increased gross weight capability, enhanced air conditioning, glass cockpit avionics, VIP amenities, cargo handling, camera hatches, and integration of surveillance/patrol systems.

Barcode Tracking Software With Unique Features Slated For Aviation

Dynamic Systems, Inc. has announced a low cost tool, equipment, and maintenance manager for the aviation industry based on bar code technology.

In business since 1981, DSI provides bar code systems that track tools, maintenance, equipment, documents, work orders, inventory, capital assets, ID badges, and job costing. Bar code data collection has been proven to be the most accurate and efficient method of tracking or counting items.

DSI has announced the immediate launch of “Toolroom,” targeted for airports, MRO’s, and FBO’s that need to reduce the loss of tools and equipment and save time tracking them down. Service Manager tracks maintenance performed in accordance with Aviation Regulations. Job Costing calculates parts & labor used on particular projects. Stockroom Inventory tracks materials used down to the lot number, prints PO’s and has complete cradle to grave lot tracking. Also a complete audit trail reporting function. The program is integrated, user friendly and flexible.

“I’m impressed with the simplicity and adaptability of your Management Systems. It’s affordable for most companies, even those with just a few employees,” stated Bill Allen, process control consultant.

If it requires one minute checking a tool in and out, and if the company’s staff spends even 20 minutes a day searching for tools or servicing equipment, the overhead savings is dramatic. “Loss of tools and malfunctioning equipment is a major overhead cost today,” states Alison Falco, president.
